What are the Benefits of Indoor Cycling?

According to the U.S. Department of Health ".....regular physical activity substantially reduces the risk of coronary disease, stroke, colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.....and helps to control weight, contributes to healthy bones, muscles and joints... reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression..." Need we go on? Cycling is also "low-impact" without the joint stress that you get from "ground-pounding" sports and activities. All good reasons to strap-in/clip-on and RYDE!

It's About Training for Life

-Brigid Lossing

“But I'm not an athlete!” “I'm not a huge fitness buff.” “I don't want to run a marathon or be one of those people seem to make exercise their major hobby – I've got other things to do with my time!”

Ever since Christina and I opened RydeOn! – and even before – we've heard many of the same kinds of reasons as I've listed above when people tell us why they aren't signing up for indoor cycling or other forms of fitness classes. After all, most of us have full, demanding lives with families, careers, social activities, and hobbies.

It's easy to feel like making time for health and fitness actually takes time away from those other very valuable parts of our lives.

That's why, as Christina and I considered the overall mission of RydeOn!, we decided that we're not here primarily for athletes – though we welcome athletes and “huge fitness buffs” alike and love to work with them.

Our primary focus is on people who want to be healthier and more fit in order to be better able to enjoy life's other pleasures and be able to enjoy them for longer. Here at RydeOn! Saline our philosophy, theme and motto is “Training for Life.”

Granted, some of the people who come to our indoor cycling classes – and a number of our instructors – are training for for races or other athletic events. We're welcome them and we do everything we can to encourage and support them in reaching those goals.

But if you “just” want to be able to climb the stairs to your office without breaking into a sweat – or walk/run a mile, or get rid of that joint pain, or fit into the shorts you wore last summer – RydeOn! is here for you.

The other reason we believe in “Training for Life” is that both Christina and I know what a huge difference health and fitness has made to our lives. I am able to work a demanding full-time job, own a successful small business, and keep up with my family responsibilities because I exercise and watch my diet.

I am “Training for Life” because physical training enhances my life. Setting and achieving fitness goals has also done huge things for my self-confidence, which in turn helps me succeed in all of the areas of my life. (Not to mention how wonderful I feel when I look in the mirror!)

“Training for Life” isn't about spending all of our time focusing on nothing but diet and exercise. It is about making a habit of proper diet and exercise because doing so has a powerful impact on everything from how well we sleep to feeling in control and on top of our worlds.

So yes, RydeOn! is a place where you'll find challenging indoor cycling classes. It's also a place where you're welcome regardless of whether you want do a triathalon or you “just” want to train your body into a condition that will allow you to excel and feel great in other areas of your life. This is why we've developed RydeOn! University and are using our blog and online newsletter to bring you the best information on exercise physiology, nutrition, and motivational strategies.

We're not just doing these things to promote our business. We're doing them because Christina and I have literally changed our lives for the better through exercise and better diets, and we want to be here to give you the support, information – and yes, indoor cycling classes – that will help you transform your life as well.

Best wishes, good luck, and RydeON!
